Newspaper Roundup 02/07/15: Boko Haram leaders arrested in Chad and Nigeria.

Chad security forces has arrested a key leader of Nigeria's Boko Haram. News24 reports that,
"Prosecutor Alhassim Khamis said in a statement on Monday that Bahna Fanaye, whose alias is Mahamat Moustapha, was apprehended on Sunday, along with two others. He said Fanaye co-ordinated the trafficking of weapons between Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad for the radical Islamic network.
Khamis said forces seized various weapons, communication materials, documents and more than 50 SIM cards from Fanaye's home. He said a man described as the financier of the group was also arrested in another operation."
Kudos guys.

In a related news, Thisday reports that a certain businessman connected to the abduction of the Chibok girls was arrested by Nigeria's defence forces.
"Nigerian troops have arrested a businessman accused of "participating actively" in Boko Haram's mass abduction of over 200 schoolgirls from their secondary school in Chibok, Borno State last year, Nigeria's defence ministry said on Tuesday.
Quoting Defence Headquarters (DHQ) spokesman, Major-General Chris Olukolade, the UK-based Telegraph newspaper reported that the suspect, Babuji Ya'ari, headed a "terrorists' intelligence cell" for the Islamic extremists while masquerading as a member of the self-defence Youth Vigilante Group."

Elsewhere, President Buhari met with the the Femi Gbajamiala faction of the APC faction of the House of Representatives.
This was from Thisday newspaper:
"They arrived at the first lady's wing of the Presidential Villa, venue of the meeting, at 9.30p.m. and were joined by Buhari at 9.45p.m. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was also at the meeting.
The meeting was called to explore ways to resolve the ongoing leadership crisis in the House and was the second one held by Buhari in recent days with National Assembly lawmakers.
He was reported to have met Senator Lawan and his supporters a few days ago.
However, he has studiously avoided any meetings with Saraki and Dogara who went against the wishes of the party to emerge principal officers of the National Assembly."
My concern is that except this reporting is laden with falsehood, then something somewhat un-presidential is going on. Resolving a crises demands that the president meets with both sides of the divide. But this report says he has been regularly meeting with one side and "studiously" avoiding the other side. That is sad.

In other news, Ambode of Lagos has again defeated his governorship election opponent yet again. Jimi Agbaje's case was dismissed by the election tribunal in Lagos. Also, the PDP is seriously protesting Buhari's appointment of Mrs Aminat Zakari as action chairman of INEC on the ground that she has very close ties to the president from way back.
